THE EARLIEST ANYBODY COULD ACTUALLY USE/BENEFIT FRON THE HALL IS WITH THE RELEASE OF GW2
a year and a half to two years in the future
right now they are working on GWEN which will be used right now.
the present epeen self worship impress people hall is a ........PLACEHOLDER
GWEN is now and your shrine to self worship can wait a few weeks/months with no damage at all as it wont be used for well over a year.
me..............i will have fun playing the game while you scream for a bigger monument because you...........worked so hard for it...........in a game
Wow, your post wasn't entirely in caps and bold.
/congrats
Just because people want it done right doesn't mean it has anything to do with "epeen." Anet spent a lot of time talking about HoM and the role it would play in GW:En. So many people are upset with how it came out. I know I don't want to see a necro or mesmer when I see my warriors 15k armor. It should be the armor I put up not something completely different.

is a shrine to your self so important you cant wait a few weeks/months to admire yourself?
Rule of online games: Don't make people wait for content or you kill your game, ex: Phantasy Star Universe, Rf online and every other Asian online game that refused to update the U.S servers in a timely fashion. Waiting until this Friday I can do, months - no. HoM isn't even for admiring yourself, it's something to do and feel like you've accomplished something/gw2, it was pretty much the reason I was interested in Eye of the North.

if everybody is missing it obviously i am explaining wrong.
try a different way.
if you put for example one of my mini pigs in the hall and 2 years from now GW2 goes live and i get *GW1 MINI PIG GW2 UNLOCK* unique GW2 minipet and all GW1 minipigs equal the exact same UNIQUE GW2 MINIPET no matter when they were entered right how does waiting a month or so for them to fix/polish have any effect on GW2?
except for someone who wants to show off right now
/off topic Jebus... if people playing GW think they're grinding they should try RF. It's enough to make your eyes bleed. And that's coming from a perfectly content WoW player (me).
/ontopic
While I think there is definitely a lot of room for improvement with the HoM, Loviatar has a point (even if I don't necessarily agree with the way he makes it sometimes). Give the devs some time to digest the reaction from players and wait to see what happens.

/sigh... I didn't really want to weigh in with the "I should know" argument, but having worked in games for the last seven years I know hot air when I see it and there's been a heck of a lot of it round here the last few days.
The word "beta" has been thrown around a lot, GW:EN is not beta, it's gone past Goldmaster and is either being pressed right now or will be in the next day or two. Hell, it probably already has been, and is being packaged as we whinge.
But, and this is a big "but" it's a PC game. PC games often hit the shelves with the devs knowing damn well it's going to need patching the minute it's installed, so while I don't necessarily agree that anything is "placeholder", it's certainly going to be looked at if the devs feel it needs to be. Judging by the backlash over the HoM I'd be surprised if they didn't review it.
That said, I do agree with whoever it was that said it, that as far as Arena.net are concerned, this is pretty much how they planned it to be. You can judge that for yourselves from Gaile's posts. Whether or not it stays that way is largely going to be dependent on whether the response they get from the players is not just some 30 page bitchfest, but rather we offer opinion backed up with some good reasoning. And there has been some of that, but not a whole lot.
/applies flame retardent body stocking.
My personal opinion:
Per character seems fine to me, expected that anyway
mini pets - NPC or account customising works better
Armour - profession specific would be better, but i really can't see myself wanting to get people to admire my epeen anyway.
Lack of PVE title recognition - pretty sucky. Doubt I'll bother with getting past PKM.
The HoM is the only wrong thing I've seen in the Preview.
- You can't remove heroes from the monument once you add them.
- You can't use the miniatures ith your other characters once you add them.
- No PvE titles can be shown in the hall, only PvP.
I'm dissappointed with HoM however I agree with Lovitar in that what we are seeing this weekend is unlikely to be what will be the end HoM. The devs will be seeing the feedback here and hopefully will (as they have done many times before) change things accordingly. I liked the solution to minipet customization similar to the festival hat guy and I believe Gaile did as well and will pass it to the devs. I totally see why they went that way but I think a Zookeeper in town would keep what they are trying to prevent from happening and still keep us able to swap minis around our chars. I do very much want my PVE titles displayable and correct armors etc, but that is perhaps just like all the quests...just not enabled YET. That does not mean it won't be enabled ever or even enabled by release. I love the story/scenery etc I am willing to be patient with HoM and have faith the devs will see and respond
edit:
Regarding the Beta/Goldmaster thing Seraphim just posted above, while a good point, I do think it should be pointed out that GW is NEVER as it is in the box, it is online. They update and change content very often so in that regard I think whether this is beta or goldmaster is rather moot.

Give the devs some time to digest the reaction from players and wait to see what happens.
Thing is, they should have anticipated this reaction and have been ready for it. Take the armor issue... did they think that we'd wouldn't notice that "our" armor in the HoM was for a different gender and class than our character? It shouldn't have been that difficult to program in a simple Get/Set command to find the exact armor and show that one. In fact, unless they use the same two armors for each type for everyone, it should have been a little tougher to program in the randomization.
Again this also goes back to the lack of communication. They should have made it clear that they weren't going to show your specific armor from the get go.

Well, yes it never should be as it is on the box, given the nature of MMO games. But there is a large difference between beta and gold. Beta should be feature fixed with all alpha bugs fixed, but that's still a way from Gold. Could be anything up to three months, maybe more for an MMO. Not sure, never worked on one. But I wouldn't call it moot. Actually, if anyone thinks my banging on about beta/gold was in defence of the devs it wasn't to be honest. It was more about not using the word beta as an argument for it not being finished, or not what was expected. Eh it's late, tired.. not sure i made my point very well there.

Well people are communicating their displeasure now, we could at least let them get through the weekend before expecting a response. I dunno, I'm not sure I want to be told everything before it happens.. maybe that's just me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly impressed with the HoM either...
The armour issue could be intentional, it may be a bug. We just don't know yet, though I tend to think it's pretty much what was planned. Guess we'll find out on Friday.
Well I see this thread has diminished into an arguement. As far as the armor in HoM on display; my thought is that it should basically be the same image used on your login screen. It would be realistic and surely very easy for the devs to do.
Personalized minis.....While I TOTALLY understand their fear of ppl exploiting this feature, I do think that account based customizing is the way to go.
I do think they may have set themselves up for this "Bitchfest" by promoting HoM as a sell-point for GW:EN. As with all online games there will be a patch(always is hehehe) and things will change. Our job as responsible players is to:
1. Enjoy the game..........And GW:EN is a beatiful game so far.
2. Give our feedback about the game in a less-agitated manner.
3. Enjoy the game.
There really is no reason for people to be attacking eachother in this thread. It is purely rude and uncalled for. If you want your opinions to be taken seriously then present them in a mature/polite manner. With some of the posts you people are making, if I were the Dev or rep from anet reading this.....I would click the happy little "X" on the right top side of the window.
TO THE POINT?.....Some people here need to mature a little instead of throwing dirt in your fellow player's eye.
TO the DEVS:.....The Game is beautiful so far, and we will be looking forward to the few "minor" bugs being fixed over the next few weeks. And Thank You for a very nice game. Which we get to play for free(no monthly fees rocks)
what I was expecting from the HoM was something like this.
each account had 1 hall in which all the titles that had been achieved were on show. If you looked closely at any title or clicked on it I would give information like.
"Legendary guardian achieved by characters A & B"
"legendary Survivor achieved by characters B &C"
while pets armour etc could have a small space on the wall for each character.
This would allow players to see what they have achieved and share this with other people in the way it seemed to be described.
As for moving on to GW2 the titles would still be specific to each character and could be linked back that way. So in 2 years time you decide your first character is descended from character B you would have whatever benefits legendary survivor and guardian give on just that character. While another new character descended from character A would just have the benefits of legendary guardian etc.
As for the pvp titles I would suggest having access to the monuments when you reach rank 2 of most titles and rank 3 of hero. These titles are not to hard to get and will update as the player gains more rank. (I even thought having a small representation of the animal you have like deer, wolf, tiger or phoenix as the monument) This would at least allow the HoM to be used as most people thought it would be.
The silly high ranks for pvp titles, character based halls (esp for minipets) seems a really bad idea which in its current form makes the well publicized HoM into a bit of a joke as it currently stands. However this is a test weekend and hopefully devs will look at peoples ideas, general feedback and make adjustments. I am quite confident they will make this better in the same way they removed the silly restrictions on players being in guilds for a set time before they could participate in ATs, the players said this needed reduced and it was adjusted by the devs not to long later.
Has anyone managed to put at least one weapon on display in HoM then? I have tried with most green I got from previous chapter and some drops from GWEN and could not put it on... maybe I did something wrong, I dunno...
But, HoM as it stands for me, is gonna be mostly empty with the exception of the minipet section, and maybe armor section.... kinda still shocked with the pvp requirement... Dun't think imma gonna bother much with HoM... I'll just enjoy GWEN, and forget that HoM ever existed...
I am lucky because I have 1 main character that has titles (which cant go in the monument....), mini pets and armors. I havent been around long so thats the reason. really sucks for those who have multiple characters.
The only thing I found disappointing about GW:EN is the Hall of Monuments. I play multiple characters on a daily basis. I plan to unlock all the primary profession skills for every character type, which, at a plat a skill in a very short time costs a lot, so each character gets only one set of elite armor. I detest PvP because I am terrible at it, and will never get into it. Right now, if I were to set up my hall, I would have one set of armor on display. Since I never really bothered with the challenge missions (I prefer the other PvE stuff), only one of my characters has any heroes to be displayed at all. So about the only thing on the fellowship monument are pets charmed. My spider on my ranger, and an "animal companions" statue for the hero pets. Including the Black Moa my one hero has.
I have 30 individual mini pets, only two of which are displayed because I was dumb enough to not notice the customization the first time (I had not read this thread before I started). Luckily they are fairly common ones one of which has already been replaced, but now that monument is useless to me.
So, while the idea of the Hall is nice, it is pretty useless to me. It is also useless to a lot of the people I play with a lot because we all play multiple characters, swap mini pets among those characters, and tend to just relax and enjoy the game.
When a character gets a tapestry as a reward, I will go hang it so I don't have to store the tapesty. Other than that, the Hall of Monuments is basically just a place on the map for me.
Maybe in the future I will care about GW2 and inheriting stuff from past characters, and find that the Hall has some purpose after all. For now, though, I plan to just play through the story line, enjoy the dungeons and the repeatable quests/rewards, and ignore a certain place on the map unless I have to go visit the scrying pool again.
Please quote me where I stated I want to transfer "things"?
I know full well what I'm going to get in GW2. Cosmetic and what not.
Please tell me, is it wrong that I happen to CARE about such feature? After all, someone gotta do that. Otherwise, why would Anet make such feature available to begin with?
